Surprise! North Korea has nukes

A top North Korean official has told U.S. legislators that the communist state possessed nuclear weapons, Radio Free Asia reported on Friday.

North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan said the country was a nuclear weapons state but its nuclear arsenal was defensive in nature and Pyongyang did not intend to possess it forever [...]

Wait, wait, wait. Back up. I thought they already told us they had nukes. And we said they're lying. Have I time warped again?
North Korea is believed to possess one or two nuclear weapons and possibly more than eight. It has boasted to have transformed spent plutonium from reactors into materials for nuclear weapons, but has never formally declared to possess nuclear weapons.
Okay, well, question answered. This was a formal declaration. Did they sign something?

And what's this about not possessing its nuclear arsenal forever? Well, probably not. Forever is a mighty long time. But I'd hang on to it for a while anyway, if it's for defensive purposes. At least as long as the U.S. is waving its big nuclear dick around.
